Campbell River & District Public Art Gallery
The Mandate of Campbell River & District Public Art Gallery is to further the enjoyment, understanding, appreciation and practice of contemporary Canadian art, by presenting exhibitions, classes, workshops, lectures, publications; and maintaining a library of print and video and a permanent collection.
The Gallery?s main Goals are to present exhibitions and programs of interest to residents and visitors; to foster the career development of artists; to create greater interest/appreciation of contemporary art in partnership with other local and provincial arts/culture organizations; to involve an increasing number of children, young adults and diverse ethnic groups in the Gallery; to collect works by Canadian artists in diverse mediums.
History of the Organization: Opened 1994 / incorporated 1995. We annually present 10 exhibitions in the main gallery (176.5 square meters / 1900 square feet), five in the new Discovery Gallery/Activity Room (68.3 square meters / 735 square feet) and five in lobby cases; up to 40 classes, workshops and lectures; school programs. Open year-around; 283 society members, 50 volunteers and 2 staff members. Gift Shop. Approximately 14,000 visitors annually.
Role in the Arts Community: Artists appreciate the variety of opportunities for exhibitions, guest curatorship and teaching, classes/workshop, art rental, artist talks, newsletters and postings of calls for exhibitions.
Distribution Network: Publications (including newsletters) and Exhibition invitations are mailed to 365 members and other public and private galleries across the country.
Artist Fees: are based on CAR/FAC rates.
