Gros Ventre, Sarcee, Cree, Assinibone, Ojibwa, and French Filmmaker/Performer Donald Morin just finished acting for the Rubaboo Arts Festival and is writing his next feature film project Métis Winter Morning. Donald has been busy since last fall and the New Year. He's performed as a singer/songwriter for Jay Hamburger's Theatre in the Row's 13th anniversary celebration, and the Free the Cuban five refugees benefit in December 2006. He also worked as a videographer/educator for The Sechelt Nation, as a principal actor for AFI Filmworks and as well as an actor for Anishnabe performance artist Rebecca Belmore. He returned to community radio as a co-host/co-producer with Gunargie O'Sullivan on the Coop Radio Native Arts and Entertainment Show "When Spirit Whispers" every Wednesday night on 102.7 FM Vancouver, or http://www.coopradio.org/listen Other performance work consisted of a singing and acting role in The Tipping Point for Theatre In the Raw and The Heart of The City Festival, and the Lead Musical role of SAM WOLF in IOU LAND for Caravan Farm Theatre, in Armstrong , BC, 2005. Previous works involve completing the DVD of his 7 Fires 4 U'Kitchi Manitou feature film project, and presenting his paper NDNs In The Age of Terror and a 45 min version of 7 Fires 4 U'Kitchi Manitou for The Society for Cinema and Media Studies 2004 Conference in Atlanta Georgia, USA.. He sat on the media arts jury for the 2,003 Canada Council for the Arts Selection Committee in Ottawa and completed teaching the Native youth program and the professional development media programs at the Indigenous Media Arts Group in Vancouver. The 7 Fires 4 U'Kitchi Manitou film was also presented @ the 13th. Annual La Terres En Vue Film/Video Festival in Montreal of June, He also completed two video shorts for Monique Giard entitled VICIOUS ATTACK, and I'M FIRST NATIONS AND PROUD OF IT.
2002, The 7 Fires 4 U'Kitchi Manitou film premiered at the 5th Annual IMAGeNation Indigenous Film/Video Festival in Vancouver after his digital filmmaking teaching work at The Native Education Centre. November, he directed and videographed the one hour DVCAM production promoting Closer To Home for Producer Rasunah Marsden. Work also involved Film Consultant for German Company Relevant Film's project BluePrint photographed in Europe and Canada, In 2001, Donald shot 16mm film for his 7 Fires 4 U'Kitchi Manitou and worked with Robert Free of the American Indian Movement in Seattle Washington.
2000, Mr. Morin worked on various Television series such as First Wave, So Weird, and published the magazine edition of The Métis Sauvage European Tour website for Mannitou Creations, and shot 16mm film footage of his 2002 release. 1999, He produced and toured The Métis Sauvage European Tour in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, and London. 1998, Donald completed the role of "Pozzo" in Waiting For Godot, and performed musically for The Native Youth Movement. In 1997, Donald finished work with the TV series Dead Man's Gun, and presented his work for The Native Education Centre. Donald has performed for The Vancouver Aboriginal Cultural Festival, The Downtown Eastside Association and for Aboriginal Day and United Native Nations. During spring 1997, Donald completed his work with The Karen Jamieson Dance Company in the Native/Non-Native Modern Dance Collaboration and tour entitled Stone Soup. He also worked as a performer with Karen in The Kiss Project, Gawa Gyani, and Shattered Space from 1991 - 1996. Recently, Donald was involved with the First Nations Advisory board for the "Four Circles, Soaring Visions" project; Scheduled for 1998 -2000 release and tour initiated by The Richmond Art Gallery, The University of British Columbia, and The University of South Australia. In 1996, he was co-choreographer and coordinator for Visions & Voices 96, a celebration of First Nations Fashion and Music. He also presented a multi-media performance promoting his 16mm film "7 Fires 4" U'Kitchi Manitou at the First Nations event, the Red Jam Slam, summer celebration produced by Gunargie O' Sullivan. In 1995 Donald has performed, as an actor for Department of National Defense, and as will as worked with teen idol Devon Sawa in the American Film "Robin of Lockley". He also taught a video class for the Semiahmoo First Nations and helped them completed their first Video "A Time For Change". Early work involved Savage Media Productions in Theatre and Radio. In 1994 and 1995, Donald performed his work at Gunargie O' Sullivan's musical events The First Red Jam Slam and The Second Red Jam Slam performance events involving First Nation Musicians. March 94, he worked as a principal actor in the NBC Movie of The Week Jonathan Stone, Threat of Innocence with Richard Crenna and Beverly De'Angelo in Seattle, Washington. Mr. Morin produced and edited The 96 minute documentary dance video of Karen Jamieson's cross-cultural production of Gawa Gyani in Tokyo, Japan 1994. The following month April, he produced and co-directed his multi-media Event Indians & Dogs for The National Native Youth and Multicultural Conference in Vancouver. Donald Morin performed the LEAD role of Eddy LaRoche in the Quebec 35mm film Windigo in 1993, which won awards at film festivals in Toronto and Cannes France. In 1993, he attended a producer's program at The Canadian Film Centre in Toronto and performed in The Crackwalker at The Firehall Arts Centre Vancouver. Donald?s work has included CBC news, the Grunt Gallery/Public Dreams Society's performance event Masque of the Red Death, and Headline Theatre's BC tour of Out Of The Silence. In 1992 Donald performed at F.I.N.D 92. Festival International Nouveau Dance in Montreal. In 1989 he wrote and produced the radio play, Schoolyards and Old Town and graduated from Simon Fraser University, majoring in fine and performing arts with a film concentration. In 1986 he studied film & video with The Chief Dan George memorial Society, and worked with U.S. film-maker Phil Lucas 1988, he was director/producer for Spirit Song's Summer program, and. In 1984 he was Project Manager for Spirit Song Theatre Company and in 1985, he was a co-theatre instructor for Spirit Song Theatre Company. He taught acting for the First Nations Artists Corporation, as well as produced videos such as "Indianotics & Mannitou" and The Red Jam Slam.. Donald Morin maintained an affiliation with the Directors Guild of Canada from 1983-1989 and acting representation with The Marie Morton Talent Agency from 1981-1992. Donald completed his bachelor of Arts Degree with a Fine & Performing Arts Major avec Film Concentration at SFU 1989. Previous work in the 80s also involved a two-year commitment at Carnegie Theatre Guild, with Colin McPherson, where Donald taught acting, dance and produced numerous plays for the young company. Mr. Morin began his 27 year career in the film, television, and theatre business September,1980 and continues to work as a performer and filmmaker today.
