Txi Whizz
Highly visual, physically energetic, multi-disciplinary performance - dead serious clowning. Txi (Chi)
Whizz combines theatre, dance, music and the broader visual and performing arts skills in public to address honest, human questions.
Txi has a fascination with the performance-enhancing qualities of the umbrella, the most democratic of props. She is currently writing an opera about umbrellas on a Canada Council Inter-Arts grant in collaboration with composer, accordion-player Geoff Berner.
An inter-disciplinary artist since 1968, Txi (Chi) Whizz has made her mark internationally as a performer, director, writer, mask-maker, button accordion player, innovative workshop teacher, collaborator in large multi-disciplinary events, and dedicated perpetrator of Fools Theatre.
Txi's motto is: Have guts, will travel. In 2003 she taught dance, theatre and puppetry at STSI Fine Arts University in Denpasar, Bali; where she wrote and directed a performance piece, the Big Umbrella with 40 students and a gamelan orchestra. Returning to Vancouver she directed a community dance/theatre piece, the Amazing Umbrella Experience. In 2004 Txi lead performance workshops in Chiapas, Mexico. All sincere, artistic offers considered.
