Ryan Ringer
Ryan Ringer is a social convener. His artistic practice is a “playful-constructive” critique of collectivity and lived experience. His artistic output to date comprises a wide range of media and actions (including sculpture, installation, writing, performance, art direction, curation and creative consultation). His work as a whole focuses on human relations, urban life, play, modern folklore and extrasensory perception, and is marked by a deep desire to challenge existential conventions and undermine the world of pretense. He makes opportunities for people to question the state of their lives, to play and form new human relationships. These projects often take the form of expeditions, role-playing scenarios, free psychic readings, group travel experiences and public refreshment kiosks.
Ringer (b. 1976, Ontario, Canada) earned his AOCAD from the Ontario College of Art & Design (2007), where he majored in Sculpture/Installation. Based in Toronto, he directs the collaborative art arena Methinks and the artist-run space Project 165. He has been featured in Canadian Art Magazine, Broken Pencil Magazine, The Toronto Star, CBC Television's The National, CBC Radio's Metro Morning and other media outlets.
